Posto Paneer (Paneer cooked with poppy seeds paste)

Posto Paneer.

Paneer Posto (poppy seeds paste) is a very delicious dish, which I love to cook with little veggies. Posto Bata is a Bengali’s all time favorite preparation.  Do try this with paneer and I can bet you will never regret about it. Moreover its no onion and garlic dish.

Ingredients :

  • Paneer – 200 gm (cube size or as you like)
  • Potato – 1 (cut in small cube)
  • Carrot – 1 (small cube)
  • Green peas – 1/4 cup
  • Green chili – 3 to 4 pc
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  • Red chili powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Poppy seeds – 3 tbsp
  • Ginger paste – 1 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Bay leaves – 2 pc
  • Dry red chili – 2 pc
  • Bengali aram masala powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for cooking

( Bengali garam masala powder – 1″cinnamon stick, 4 cardamom, 4 cloves , put this whole spices in mortar & pestle and make a powder of it )

Procedure :
1. Soak the poppy seeds in water for 1 hour and then make a paste of it using 2 green chili and little salt.
2. Now take a pan and heat up little oil then slightly fry the paneer pieces. Keep it aside.
3. In the same pan again add the oil and temper with cumin seeds, bay leaves and dry red chili. Then add the potato and carrot pieces. Season with salt and fry it till the veggies are soft.
4. Now add the green peas, turmeric powder and red chili powder. Give it a good mix. Then add the poppy seeds paste. Fry it for about a minute.
5. Add 1 cup of warm water and bring it to a boil. Now add the paneer pieces with green chilis. Cook it again for about a 3 to 4 minutes or till you reaches the desire consistency.
6. Lastly check the seasoning and add the garam masala powder, mix it well. Then turn off the flame. Now give it a standing time for 4 to 5 minutes, then sever with roti, rice or pulao.
