Bhindi Posto (Lady’s Finger with Poppy Seeds)

Bhindi Posto is a famous dish in Bengal. Though I am not a big fan of eating bhindi (okra) but I like this preparation. Thats why I am sharing with you guys, hope you like it.

Ingredients :

  • Bhindi(okra) – 200 gm
  • Poppy seeds paste – 2 tbsp
  • Onion – 1 small (slice)
  • Green chili – 2 to 3 slit
  • Tomato – 1 small (deseeded)
  • Kalonji seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Red chili powder – 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for cooking

Procedure :

1. Wash the bhindi first, then cut it from the middle(length wise). Heat a tsp oil in a pan then slightly fry them. keep it aside.

2. Again put the tbsp oil in a pan, add kalonji seeds and green chili, let it splutter. Now add the slice onion and fry it. Then add turmeric and red chili powder. Mix it.

3. Add the poppy seeds paste, cook it about a minute. Then add the bhindi and tomato. Mix them all with this mixture. Cook it about 3 to 4 minutes. (don’t cover the pan)

4. Lastly add the salt and coriander leaves. Turn off the heat and serve it with rice or roti.
