Dal Palak or Spinach Dal

Dal palak is one of the great combination of nutritions and protein in one dish. Its very simple & easy to cook , as well as tasty  & healthy also. This can be served with chapati & rice as well.

Ingredients :

  • Pigeon Peas or arhar dal – 1 cup
  • Red lentils or masoor dal – 1/4 cup
  • Spinach – 1 cup (chopped)
  • Onion – 2 tbsp
  • Garlic – 1 tsp (chopped)
  • Tomato – 1 medium size (chopped)
  • Turmeric – 1 tsp
  • Red chili powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tsp
  • Garam masala powder – 1/2 tsp
  • Bay leaves – 1 no
  • Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
  • Lemon juice – 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for cooking

Procedure :

1. Take the arhar & masoor dal together in a bowl, wash couple of times & soak it for 30 minutes. Then put the dal in a pressure cooker along with little bit turmeric powder, salt and water. Cook for 2 whistle or until done.
2. Now take the kadai and put the oil, when oil heats up add the bay leaves & cumin seeds. Sauté till fragrant.
3. Now add the chopped garlic & onion, cook till they translucent. Then add chopped tomatoes, cook it in a medium flame for a minutes. Then add the remaining turmeric powder, red chili powder and coriander powder .
4. Add the chopped spinach leaves and mix it very well. Saute till the spinach cooked. Now add the cooked dal with 1/2 cup water or as required.
5. When the dal starts boiling add the garam masala powder & season with salt if required. Now switch off the gas & add the lemon juice. Mix well and serve with roti or rice.
Note :
If guest are coming , then you can put little bit tadka on top for garnishing.
